Characteristics

Perennial herb 25–35 cm tall. Stems intricately branched, 4-ribbed, minutely papillose. Leaves decussate, becoming alternate above, coriaceous, glabrous; lamina 0.8–1.5 cm long; margins strongly thickened, with 10–14 coarse blunt teeth; petiole to 2 mm long. Bracts alternate, oblanceolate, 1.1–1.4 mm long, entire, green, margins thickened; bracteoles cuneate, 0.2–0.4 mm long, truncate with 3 or 4 minute teeth, brown. Flowers 4-merous; pedicels 0.3–0.5 mm long. Sepals deltoid, 0.6–0.7 mm long, smooth, green. Petals 2–2.7 mm long, pink. Stamens 8; anthers 1.5–1.8 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed, papillose on ribs, glabrous, reddish purple. Fruit pendulous, cylindrical, 1.5–1.7 mm long, 8-ribbed, papillose on ribs, dark purplish grey; pedicel 0.5 mm long.
