Characteristics

Subshrub to 16 cm tall. Stems smooth or slightly wrinkled, densely hispid. Leaves alternate, densely crowded, linear, obtuse, hispid with tuberculate hairs; lamina 6–7 mm long. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, 2.5 mm long, green; bracteoles ovate, 1.3 mm long, yellow, with dark reddish midrib. Flowers 4-merous, nodding; pedicel 0.7 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, 0.6 mm long, green. Petals 2.2 mm long, coarsely hispid, deep red. Stamens 8; anthers 1.2 mm long. Ovary strongly and sharply 8-ribbed, coarsely hispid on ribs, dark purple-black. Fruit unknown but probably similar to ovary.
