Characteristics

Herb or subshrub 40–60 cm tall. Stems 4-ribbed, pilose. Leaves decussate, oblong to elliptic, obtuse, scabrous; lamina 2.5–3 cm long; margins thickened, with 25–30 teeth; petiole 1–3 mm long. Bracts alternate, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 3–3.5 mm long, entire or 3–5-toothed; bracteoles linear to lanceolate, 0.7–1 mm long, c. 5-denticulate, brown. Flowers 4-merous; pedicel 0.6–0.8 mm long. Sepals oblong to deltoid, 0.6–0.9 mm long, convex, smooth. Petals 2.3–3.4 mm long, green to red. Stamens 8; anthers 2.2–2.7 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed with 3–5 angular tubercles between ribs, glabrous. Fruit cylindrical, 1.8–2 mm long, silvery to charcoal-grey; pedicel 0.7 mm long.
