Characteristics

Erect or ascending perennial herb 20–30 cm tall. Stems 4-angled, with spreading or semi-appressed tuberculate hairs. Leaves decussate, alternate above, subsessile, broadly ovate to cordate; lamina 0.7–1.7 cm long; margins thickened, with 8–12 coarse teeth. Bracts alternate, lanceolate, 2.3–2.8 mm long, entire or weakly 2-or 3-toothed, green; bracteoles membranous, ovate, 0.7–0.9 mm long, deeply 3–7-toothed, red-brown. Flowers 4-merous; pedicel 0.4 mm long. Sepals deltoid to subcordate, 0.5–0.8 mm long, reddish green; margins thickened; weak basal callus. Petals 2–3.1 mm long, red. Stamens 8; anthers 2–2.4 mm long. Ovary weakly 8-ribbed with 2 or 3 oblique calluses, scabrous, slate-grey. Fruit 1–1.3 mm long, silver-grey to slate-grey.
