Characteristics

Intricate shrub 0.5–1.5 m tall. Stems 4-ribbed, velvety. Leaves decussate, alternate above, ovate to oblong, rounded apically, scabrous; lamina 10–35 mm long; margins thickened, crenate with 15–30 teeth; petiole 3–5 mm long. Bracts lanceolate, 2–3 mm long, entire, scabrous; bracteoles broadly lanceolate to ovate, 0.5–0.8 mm long, entire or 2-or 3-lobed, yellow-brown. Flowers 4-merous; pedicel 0.1–0.2 mm long. Sepals lanceolate to ovate, 0.6–0.7 mm long, green; margins thickened; weak basal callus. Petals 2.3–3.1 mm long, red to yellow. Stamens 8; anthers 2.1–2.2 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed with 1 or 2 weak calluses between ribs. Fruit subsessile, 1.1–1.3 mm long, scabrous, silver-grey to reddish purple.
