Characteristics

Erect slender herb 40–65 cm tall. Stems smooth to 4-angled, glabrous or with a few hairs. Leaves decussate, sessile, terete to linear, entire or sometimes weakly crenulate, glabrous or sparsely scabrous; lamina 2–5 cm long. Bracts alternate, entire, green; bracteoles ovate, c. 0.3 mm long, entire. Flowers 4-merous, solitary, rarely in fascicles of 2 or 3; pedicel 0.4–0.5 mm long. Sepals ovate, 0.5–0.7 mm long, smooth, green. Petals 1.3–2 mm long, red to green. Stamens 8; anthers 0.8–1.1 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed, glabrous to densely pilose mainly on ribs, dark red-grey. Fruit depressed-globose to turbinate, 8-ribbed, glabrous to densely pilose, reddish grey to charcoal; pedicel 0.5 mm long.
