Characteristics

Erect perennial herb 20–40 cm tall. Stems smooth or weakly ribbed, glabrous. Leaves alternate, rarely subopposite at base, sessile, terete or narrowly linear, acute, entire, glabrous or sparsely scabrous; lamina 1–1.5 cm long. Bracts alternate, linear to terete, 3–4.5 mm long, entire, green; bracteoles lanceolate, 0.5–1 mm long, entire, brown. Flowers 4-merous, pendent; pedicel 0.5 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate to deltoid, 0.6–0.8 mm long, truncate to subcordate and saccate basally, reddish. Petals 2–2.3 mm long, yellow to reddish. Stamens 8; anthers 1.4–1.7 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed, glabrous to scabrous, often with a tuft of hairs at base, grey. Fruit pendent, turbinate, 0.7–0.8 mm long, dark grey; pedicel 0.6–0.7 mm long.
