Characteristics

Perennial herb to 40 cm tall. Stems smooth, glabrous. Leaves deciduous, alternate, linear, glabrous; lamina 5–10 mm long. Bracts alternate, deltoid, 1.7 mm long, keeled, deciduous, red; bracteoles linear, 0.8–1.1 mm long, deciduous. Flowers 4-merous, male or bisexual apparently on separate plants. Bisexual flowers sessile; sepals deltoid, 0.4 mm long; petals 1.7 mm long, long-clawed, greenish; stamens 8; anthers 0.9–1 mm long; ovary 8-ribbed, glabrous; styles subulate, 0.8 mm long. Male flowers as for bisexual ones but on pedicel 2 mm long; ovary rudimentary. Fruit sessile, narrowly cylindrical, 1.8–1.9 mm long, 8-ribbed, glabrous, green.
