Characteristics

Erect perennial herb 20–35 cm tall, moderately hispid. Stems 4-angled. Leaves decussate, ovate, obtuse, rounded to cordate basally; lamina 0.7–1.5 cm long; margins thickened, with 10–12 teeth; petiole 1–2 mm long. Bracts ovate, 2.5–4.5 mm long, entire to serrate; bracteoles fleshy, lanceolate, 2–2.5 mm long, entire, green. Flowers 4-merous; pedicel 0.5–1 mm long. Sepals deltoid, 0.6–0.7 mm long; margins thickened; median basal callus. Petals 2.6–3.3 mm long, green to red. Stamens 8; anthers 1.7–2.5 mm long. Ovary 8-ribbed, usually 2 oblique calluses between ribs, glabrous or sparsely scabrous; ovule 1 per locule. Fruit 1.4 mm long, scabrous.
