Erect perennial herb to 17 cm tall. Stems smooth, strigose. Leaves decussate, sessile, oblanceolate, glabrous to sparsely strigose; lamina 0.7–1 cm long; margins thickened, crenulate, hyaline. Bracts alternate, lanceolate to oblanceolate, 1–1.3 mm long, entire, reddish; bracteoles ovate to obcordate, 0.3–0.4 mm long, with short mucro, red-purple to brown. Flowers 4-merous, nodding; pedicel 0.4–0.5 mm long. Sepals ovate to orbicular, 0.4–0.5 mm long, very weakly midribbed, reddish green. Petals 0.9–1.1 mm long, deep reddish purple. Stamens 8; anthers 0.6–0.9 mm long. Ovary weakly 8-ribbed, densely appressed-pilose, black. Fruit ovoid to turbinate, 0.8–0.9 mm long, not or scarcely ribbed, scabrous, dark grey to black; pedicel 0.2–0.5 mm long.
