Characteristics

Annual herb to 30 cm tall, softly hairy; root system a thin tap root and adventitious roots. Leaves mostly basal, oblanceolate, entire or dentate, sometimes glabrescent; lamina 3.5-6 cm long, 2-10 mm wide. Flowers in loose, spreading, terminal thyrses to 15 cm long; bracts linear to elliptic, 4-15 mm long; peduncle 5-30 mm long; bracteoles linear-elliptic, 3-4 mm long; pedicel 13-20 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, c. 3 mm long, attached only to lower 1/2 of ovary. Corolla c. 12 mm long, with prominent enations, auriculate; abaxial lobes 4-5 mm long; wings c. 2 mm wide, unequal on adaxial lobe. Indusium obtriangular, 1.5 mm long, lower lip glabrous. Ovules many, scattered. Fruit ±cylindrical, c. 8 mm long; valves entire. Seeds yellow-brown.
