Goodenia cravenii R.L.Barrett & M.D.Barrett

Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Goodeniaceae > Goodenia

Characteristics

Minute, prostrate, annual herb to 1 cm high, 1–3 (–5) cm across, stolons absent or short, branches when present usually erect to spreading. Indumentum of spreading to erect, simple eglandular hairs to 0.5 mm long, except in basal part of rosette and inflorescence axils where hairs up to 1.5 mm long. Leaves thin, mostly in a basal rosette, with a few reduced, bract-like leaves on branchlets when present at base of peduncles, obovate, (2–) 3.4–15.1 mm long, 1.0–2.9 (–4.4) mm wide, margin minutely and distantly toothed, gradually tapered at the base, apex acute to obtuse, green, aging red; with very fine woolly hairs in the axils and on both surfaces of the blades, visible at 20× magnification, appearing glabrous to the naked eye. Inflorescence dimorphic with solitary, axillary flowers in leafy rosettes and sometimes in an ebracteolate (leaves reduced and bract-like in cymes), simple cyme on branches; pedicels originating in rosettes 4.6–9.8 mm long, elongating in fruit, pedicels originating in cymes 1.0–3.3 mm long, with antrorse woolly hairs. Calyx, tube 0.6–1.4 mm long, hairy; sepals narrow-triangular, unequal, 0.3–0.6 mm long, the adaxial one 0.7–0.9 mm long, with scattered simple hairs. Corolla maroon or reddish brown, 1.4–2 mm long, tube 0.5–0.7 mm long, spur obsolete, subglabrous outside, with just a few appressed or slender erect hairs c. 0.1 mm long near the apex of the lobes, glabrous inside, corolla fan-shaped, lobes equally fused for ⅓–⅔ their length, wings and auricles absent, lobes 0.4–0.8 mm long. Staminal filaments linear, 0.5–0.6 mm long, anthers narrow-oblong, 0.20–0.25 mm long. Style with a few tangled hairs; indusium 0.25–0.45 mm long, 0.5–0.6 mm wide, minutely papillose at 40× magnification, orifice densely ciliate, hairs c. 50 mm long. Capsule ovoid to ellipsoid, 1.1–1.6 mm long, 0.6–0.7 mm in diam., with scattered simple hairs, dissepiment free, reaching c. ¾ up the capsule, ovules numerous, c. 30–40, irregularly subaligned in 2 (or 3) rows along central thickened line either side of dissepiment. Seeds numerous, lenticular, c. 0.2 mm across, reddish brown, shiny, wing absent.
