Characteristics

Herb to 30 cm tall, glabrous; roots adventitious and sometimes a persistent taproot. Leaves oblanceolate, dentate, thick; lamina 5-11 cm long, 2-5 mm wide. Flowers in racemes to 25 cm long; bracts linear, 2-20 mm long; peduncle mostly to 20 mm long; bracteoles triangular, 1-1.5 mm long; pedicel 0.5-3 mm long. Sepals linear to elliptic, 1-2 mm long. Corolla 7-9 mm long, with obscure enations, auriculate; abaxial lobes 4-4.5 mm long; wings c. 1 mm wide. Indusium square, purplish towards top, flat. Ovules many, scattered. Fruit ovoid, 3-4 mm long; valves entire. Seeds yellow-brown.
