Characteristics

Ascending, annual herb to 25 cm tall; roots adventitious. Leaves mostly basal, ascending, lanceolate, entire or indistinctly dentate, glabrous; lamina 4-10 cm long, 2-4 mm wide. Flowers in compound thyrses or panicles to 20 cm long; bracts leaf-like but smaller; peduncle to 3 mm long; bracteoles linear, 3-5 mm long; pedicel 7-9 mm long. Sepals ovate to lanceolate, 1.5-1.8 mm long. Corolla usually 4-5 mm long, without enations, distinctly auriculate; abaxial lobes 1-2 mm long; wings c. 1 mm wide. Indusium almost square, 0.5 mm long, purplish. Ovules many, scattered. Fruit subglobular, 1.5-2.5 mm diam.; valves entire. Seeds yellowish.
