Characteristics

Usually perennial herb, to 50 cm tall, glabrescent; roots adventitious. Leaves mostly basal, ascending, linear to oblanceolate, sparsely and minutely dentate, thick, usually glaucous, often densely hairy when young; lamina 3–20 cm long, 2–15 mm wide. Flowers in spreading thyrses or panicles to 30 cm long; bracts linear, to 20 mm long; peduncle 1–4 cm long; bracteoles linear, 1–2 mm long; pedicel 5–10 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, 1–1.5 mm long. Corolla 8–12 mm long, without enations, auriculate; abaxial lobes 3–5 mm long; wings 1–2 mm wide. Indusium oblong, 1.5 mm long. Ovules many, scattered. Fruit ovoid to subglobular, 2–4 mm long; valves entire. Seeds yellow-brown.
