Characteristics

Ascending subshrub, to c. 60 cm tall, glabrous, ±glossy. Leaves obovate to oblanceolate, tapering basally, dentate; lamina 3.5-7 cm long, 8-20 mm wide. Flowers in thyrses or racemes to 40 cm long; bracts linear, 0.5-2 cm long; peduncle mostly 0.5-2 cm long; bracteoles similar to bracts, smaller; pedicel 0.5-3 cm long, not articulate. Sepals linear to lanceolate, 5-6 mm long. Corolla 14-18 mm long, with few, short hairs inside, with enations, ±auriculate; abaxial lobes 7-8 mm long; wings c. 2.5 mm wide. Indusium depressed-obovate. Ovules c. 20. Fruit ovoid, 10 mm long; valves bifid to base. Seeds elliptic, 1.5-1.7 mm long, brown, glossy, reticulate-foveate.
