Characteristics

Perennial herb or subshrub 20–30 cm tall, with taproot. Stems erect or ascending, 4-ribbed, glabrous or scabrous. Leaves alternate, sessile, linear to linear-lanceolate, entire or coarsely toothed in distal part, ±fleshy, glabrous or scabrous; lamina 10–30 mm long. Inflorescence of 1–7-flowered dichasia; lateral inflorescences in axils of upper leaves; bracts lanceolate, 5–8 mm long, entire, green; bracteoles lanceolate, 2–3 mm long, entire, yellow-brown. Flowers 4-merous, shortly pedicellate. Sepals deltoid, 0.8–1 mm long, smooth. Petals 2.4–3 mm long, green to red. Stamens 8. Ovary 4-locular, weakly 4-ribbed; styles 4. Fruit 4-ribbed or-winged.
