Characteristics

Perennial herb or subshrub 25–50 cm tall. Stems ascending, rooting in lower part, smooth to weakly 4-angled, hirsute. Leaves opposite in lower parts, alternate above, sessile, ovate to narrowly ovate, leathery, with 10–15 large blunt teeth, pilose; lamina 35–55 mm long. Inflorescence of 1–7-flowered dichasia; bracts lanceolate, 6–15 mm long, entire or 2–6-toothed, green; bracteoles membranous, linear, 1–2 mm long, brown. Flowers 4-merous, shortly pedicellate. Sepals deltoid, 0.8–0.9 mm long. Petals 1.8–2.3 mm long, red to green. Stamens 8. Ovary 4-locular, 4-angled, pilose; styles 4. Fruit sessile or shortly pedicellate, ovoid, 2–2.5 mm long, 4-locular but 1 usually abortive, bluntly 4-angled, weakly transversely rugose, pilose.
