Perennial herb 30–60 cm tall; rootstock unknown. Stems smooth, glabrous. Leaves subopposite below, alternate above, sessile, linear to narrowly lanceolate, entire or with 2–4 large teeth, glabrous; lamina 40–75 mm long. Inflorescence of 1–3-flowered dichasia; lateral inflorescences rare in upper axils; bracts linear, 7–10 mm long, entire, green; bracteoles linear, 1.3–1.7 mm long, brown. Flowers 4-merous; pedicel 0.5–0.7 mm long. Sepals ovate, 0.9–1 mm long. Petals 1.7–2.1 mm long. Stamens 8. Ovary 2-locular, smooth; styles 2. Fruit 1 per axil, ovoid, 1.9–2.4 mm long, 1.5–1.7 mm diam., 4-ribbed (or weakly winged), somewhat rugose, glabrous.
