Annual to perennial herbs, ascending to erect. Leaves 1-or 2-pinnatisect. Capitula 1 per stem or branch, radiate (in Australia) or discoid; involucre 2-or 3-seriate, with bracts mostly of similar length but a few outer ones shorter; receptacle paleate. Ray florets female, fertile. Disc florets bisexual; corolla 5-lobed. Achenes ±homomorphic, terete, 8–10-ribbed, hairy. Pappus absent.
