Characteristics

Robust, grass-like, us. many-lvd tufts. Shoots 5–10 mm. thick at the base above the stout, woody, rhizome-like stem-base covered with fibrous remains of old lvs. Lvs flat, margins villous with long white hairs, especially at base of lf, tips obtuse, often much-thickened. Infl. of 1-∞, many-fld clusters. Tepals acuminate. Stamens 6. Capsule < tepals.
