Characteristics

Deciduous woody climber; older stems with many prominent lenticels; branchlets with a ring of colleters at each node. Leaves with petiole 12–35 mm long, slender, reddish; lamina ovate, 5–18 cm long, 1.5–5 cm wide, cordate or rounded at base, acuminate; lower surface glaucous, almost glabrous, with numerous hairy domatia; cluster of 3–6 colleters at base of midrib above. Inflorescence terminal with c. 8–15 flowers. Flower 4–7 cm diam., white or pink. Sepals c. 10 mm long. Corolla tube 25–35 mm long. Anthers 10 mm long. Follicles 25–40 cm long, joined at tips.

Racemes long pedunculate, nodding, simple, many flowered. Flowers fragrant. Sepals narrow, 0.7-1.3 cm, acute. Corolla white or pale pink, limb 10-folded inside; lobes oblong, undulate at margin, apiculate. Filaments broad, pubescent, much shorter than glabrous anthers; disc apex obtuse or truncate, glabrous.
