Characteristics

Dioecious mat-forming perennial herb, marsh to semi-aquatic. Stems 1–2 cm tall. Leaves opposite, linear, flattened, with a terminal gland; lamina 3–6.5 mm long. Bracteoles hyaline, white; of male flowers linear, 1.3–1.8 mm long; of female flowers linear-filiform, 0.6–0.9 mm long. Flowers 4-merous, solitary. Male flowers: pedicel 4–7 mm long; sepals absent, or rarely 1–4, filiform, caducous; petals 2.1–3 mm long, persistent, deep red; stamens 8. Female flowers sessile; sepals and petals absent; ovary 4-locular; stigmas ±sessile, reflexed, white. Fruit globular, sessile, deep reddish purple; mericarps cylindrical, 0.8 mm long, truncate apically, rounded basally, smooth, or with 1 or 2 papillae in lower half.
