Characteristics

Prostrate dioecious mat-forming terrestrial or aquatic herb 2–10 cm tall. Leaves alternate, linear, entire; lamina 2.5–5 mm long. Bracteoles of male flowers linear, 0.8–0.9 mm long; of female flowers ovate to lanceolate, 0.4–0.5 mm long. Flowers 4-merous, solitary. Male flowers: pedicels 0.6–0.7 mm long; sepals absent; petals 1.8–2.5 mm long; stamens 8. Female flowers sessile; sepals and petals absent; ovary 4-locular; stigmas sessile, white. Fruit sessile, cubiform, red-purple; mericarps cylindrical, 0.8–0.9 mm long, slightly obliquely truncate, strongly papillose in 3–5 irregular rows.
