Herb to 3 cm tall. Stems creeping, arcuate ascending or decumbent. Leaves crowded, pseudo-verticillate, 10 mm long, 2–5 mm wide; lobes erect, 3 mm long, 0.2 mm wide. Inflorescence simple, no lateral inflorescences; bracts similar to upper leaves but reduced, trifid; bracteoles absent. Sepals 1.6–1.8 mm long, 0.25 mm wide, free almost to base. Grows in shallow water and moist sites, e.g. recorded from shallow pools and saturated soils in low heath with sedges, in peaty soil in swamps, a seasonally inundated lake edge, peaty sand in depressions, drainage lines, wetland in moist gully, sandy clay on floodplain, ephemeral pond.
