Characteristics

Small tree with brittle wood. Leaves simple, somewhat succulent, clustered towards ends of shoots, in whorls of 3 (or 4), petiolate. Inflorescence axillary, cymose, 3-flowered. Calyx cup-shaped, 5-lobed. Corolla ± 2-lipped; tube slightly curved. Stamens 4, not coherent, exserted; 1 staminode posterior. Ovary superior, conical, slightly curved, basally surrounded by shallow disc; placentas broad. Fruit a capsule.
