Characteristics

Perennials, caespitose, bisexual. Culms herbaceous. Ligule a rim of minute cilia. Inflorescences shortly paniculate. Spikelets pedicellate, laterally compressed, with 7–9 bisexual florets, disarticulating between florets; rachilla prolonged beyond bisexual florets with incomplete florets or terminating at a bisexual floret. Glumes 2, very unequal, similar to lower lemma, awnless, carinate; lower glume 3-nerved; upper glume 5-nerved. Lemma obscurely tridentate (the teeth with minute terminal mucros), awnless, 5–7-nerved (and ridged). Palea relatively long. Hilum longlinear. Embryo waisted.
