Bamboo, in small dense patches or solitary clumps; culms 4.5–18 m. high, 5–10 cm. in diameter, usually spreading or drooping, rarely erect, green, hollow; culm-sheaths at first clothed with appressed stiff brown hairs, tipped with a short subulate blade and fimbriate shoulders.. Leaf-blades lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 10–35 cm. long and 2.5–6 cm. wide, pale green or slightly glaucous, acutely acuminate, the transverse veins very obscure; leaf-sheaths not ciliate on the shoulders..
