Characteristics

Perennial herb, 150-600 mm high. Leaves erect-spreading; blade 64-145 x 2.0-5.5 mm, margins revolute, lower surface along midrib pubescent otherwise glabrous. Flowers: inflorescence 8-14-flowered; corona lobes 2-8 mm long with keels 0.5-4.3 mm high and 1-4 mm long, ± 1/4 length of corona lobe; corolla globose, 10-30 mm long, with lobes 5-12 mm long, pale green or dull cream-green, becoming cream-brown in older flowers; corona dark purple, with pale yellow-cream-coloured keels; Oct.-Apr. Fruit a follicle.

Perennial herb, 0.15-0.60 m high. Leaf margins revolute. Inflorescence 3-10-flowered. Corolla 10-30 mm long with lobes 5-12 mm long. Corona lobes spreading horizontally, slipper-shaped with large proximal wings on adaxial surface of keel, 3.0-8.5 mm long. Style apex excavated and 5-crenate. Anther appendages 3-4 mm long, brown, oblong, obtuse. Flowers pale green or dull cream-green becoming cream-brown in older flowers; corona dark purple with pale yellow-cream keels.
Differs from typical variety as follows: Corolla campanulate and subglobose, 10-30 mm long, 26-44 mm in diam.; lobes free for most of length, ovate to orbicular, 6.0-18.5 x 5.0-21.5 mm. Corona: lobes 2.0-8.5 mm long, 2.5-5.0 mm high, basal proximal lobe 2.5-4.0 mm long, with 2 erect wings (fin-to ear-shaped), 2-4 mm high, 1-4 mm wide; distal appendage not erect, ligulate with obtuse apex, 2.5-5.5 mm long, spreading.
