Characteristics

Tall climber with twining stems; branchlets rusty-velvety; latex clear. Juvenile leaves to 28 cm long, 16 cm wide. Adult leaves with petiole 23–45 mm long, velvety; lamina ovate, broadly ovate or broadly elliptic, 9–23 cm long, 4–10 cm wide, shallowly cordate or rounded at base, shortly acuminate at apex; both surfaces velvety with brown hairs, with upper surface somewhat scabrous-pubescent in older leaves; veins prominent below; secondary veins 5–9 pairs, with small domatia at their junction with midvein. Inflorescence of axillary, compact, many-flowered panicles; axes rusty-velvety; pedicels 4–6 mm long. Calyx lobes linear, c. 6 mm long, pubescent. Corolla cream to greenish; tube 2 mm long, pubescent outside, bearded internally at throat; lobes spreading widely, lanceolate, 4–7 mm long, densely pubescent externally, glabrous internally. Anther cone c. 4 mm long, 2/3-exserted; filaments straight; each anther bearded dorsally along midline; anther tails straight. Nectary scales free, c. 2 mm long. Capsules fusiform or very narrowly ovoid, 13–23 cm long, 1.8–2.5 cm diam., shortly and densely pubescent.
