Characteristics

Climber to 30 m high; branchlets brown, pubescent, with new growth brown-silky; latex watery, pale brown. Juvenile leaves large, often 3-lobed, strongly cordate. Adult leaves soft to firm; petiole 15–30 mm long; lamina broadly ovate or elliptic, 8–20 cm long, 5–13 cm wide, broadly cuneate, rounded or shallowly cordate at base, shortly acuminate or acute, finely hairy or scabrous on upper surface, softly and densely pubescent on lower surface with brown hairs; main veins prominent, raised below, with coarse net veins distinct below; small domatia visible below in vein axils. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal, loose, open, many-flowered panicles; axes pubescent; pedicels 3–5 mm long. Calyx lobes spreading, ovate, c. 2 mm long, acute, pubescent. Corolla yellow; tube subglobose, 1.5 mm long; lobes recurved or reflexed, lanceolate, c. 3 mm long, pubescent externally, bearded internally at base. Anther cone c. 2 mm long, about 2/3-exserted from corolla, glabrous; filaments pubescent, straight; anther tails divergent. Nectary scales free, fleshy, quadrangular, c. 0.7 mm long. Capsules slender, terete, 14–23 cm long, 0.7–1 cm diam., brown, finely pubescent.
