Climber with twining stems to 4 m high, arising from large underground tubers; young stems finely pubescent or ± glabrous; latex clear. Leaves dull, leathery to stiff; petiole 2–12 mm long; lamina very variable in shape, lanceolate or narrowly to broadly elliptic, usually 3–9 cm long, 0.5–5 cm wide, cuneate at base, recurved along margin, obtuse, emarginate or shortly acute, apiculate, glabrous or softly pubescent with colourless hairs on both surfaces; secondary veins distinct, with reticulum usually obscure or very faint. Inflorescence of compact, axillary and terminal cymes with 10–50 flowers; axes shortly pubescent; pedicels 1–4 mm long. Calyx lobes narrowly lanceolate, 1.5–2.5 mm long, usually hairy. Corolla yellowish, glabrous internally, often shortly hairy externally; tube 1–1.5 mm long; lobes erect, ovate-lanceolate, 3–4 mm long, with 3–5 parallel veins. Anther cone 2.5–3 mm long, enclosed or tip exserted; filaments twisted; anther tails convergent. Nectary scales free, narrow, c. 0.8 mm long, 1–4-lobed at apex. Capsule slender, narrowly ovoid or terete, 6–12 cm long, 0.5–1 cm diam., finely pubescent to almost glabrous.
Grows in vine thickets, drier rainforests, shrublands, Eucalyptus woodlands and open forests, in a variety of soils.
