Characteristics

Tall climber with twining stems; new growth pubescent; latex clear. Leaves thinly coriaceous; petiole 15–50 mm long, puberulous; lamina ovate to very broadly ovate, 6.5–16 cm long, 4–9 cm wide, 1.2–1.8 times as long as wide, rounded, cordate or broadly cuneate at base, mucronate or shortly acuminate, glabrous or puberulous mainly along veins below; secondary veins 8 or fewer on each side of midvein, with reticulation coarse, visible on both surfaces. Inflorescence axillary, of compact, few-flowered cymes on branches of open panicles; axes pubescent; pedicels 3–5 mm long. Calyx lobes lanceolate, spreading, c. 2 mm long, pubescent outside. Corolla cream, pubescent externally; tube 1.3–2 mm long; lobes recurved, narrowly lanceolate, c. 2.5–3 mm long, bearded internally at base. Anther cone c. 2.6 mm long, partly exserted; filaments c. 0.7 mm long, straight; anther tails divergent. Nectary scales free, thin, 0.3 mm long. Capsules fusiform or narrowly conical, 9–14 cm long, 1.3–2.6 cm diam., finely hairy, glabrescent.
