Characteristics

Tall climber with twining glabrous stems; latex opaque, milky. Juvenile leaves large, sinuately 3-lobed, ovate or oblong-ovate. Adult leaves firm, glossy, dark green, glabrous; petiole 20–35 mm long; lamina broadly ovate, 7–14 cm long, 3.5–8 cm wide, rounded or cordate at base, acuminate at apex; midvein and secondary veins raised on both surfaces. Inflorescences usually terminal, of large pedunculate panicles often 5–12 cm wide, with 20–150 flowers; axes pubescent or shortly pubescent; pedicels 2–6 mm long, pubescent. Calyx lobes pubescent. Corolla white or cream; tube 1–1.3 mm long; lobes strongly recurved, narrowly linear, 5.5–8 mm long, glabrous externally, densely bearded internally near base. Anther cone c. 4 mm long, strongly exserted; filaments slender, c. 3 mm long, moderately twisted, pubescent; anther tails converging. Nectary scales free, narrow, c. 1.3 mm long, obtuse. Capsules ± woody, cylindrical, 14–19 cm long, 2–4 cm diam., glabrous.
