Characteristics

Twiner to c. 4 m long with slender stems, glabrous or minutely pubescent; latex clear. Juvenile leaves often sinuate-trilobed (leaves on flowering shoots also sometimes 3-lobed). Adult leaves rather thin, glabrous; petiole 7–25 mm long; lamina ovate or oblong-ovate, 4–11 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, rounded to broadly cuneate at base, slightly recurved marginally, acuminate, green; secondary veins 4–6 pairs, with coarser net veins distinct below. Inflorescence of small, compact, terminal and axillary cymes with 8–40 flowers; axes pubescent; pedicels 3–6 mm long. Calyx lobes ovate, spreading, c. 2 mm long, sparsely hairy outside. Corolla yellowish; tube 2–2.5 mm long, inflated towards base; lobes spreading to slightly recurved, lanceolate, 2–2.5 mm long, ± glabrous externally, with a thick, broad, papillose median strip, densely bearded internally at base. Anther cone c. 2 mm long, with tip exserted; filaments 0.3 mm long, shortly hairy, straight; anther tails divergent, obtuse, curved upward. Nectary scales free, broad, bilobed. Capsules ovoid or ellipsoidal, 5–8 cm long, 2–3 cm diam., finely pubescent.
