Characteristics

Climber to 7 m high with thin, twining, finely hairy, glabrescent stems with scattered, raised lenticels; latex clear. Juvenile leaves narrower, often linear. Adult leaves thin, soft but firm, glabrous, green, discolorous; petiole 1.8–3.2 mm long; lamina lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 4.5–10 cm long, 0.5–3 cm wide, cordate at base, acute, shortly acuminate or rounded at apex, apiculate; midvein channelled above, with most veins raised and distinct below; secondary veins 7–16 pairs. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal, compact, many-flowered panicles; axes puberulous; pedicels 1.5–5 mm long. Calyx lobes recurved, c. 2 mm long, puberulous. Corolla cream; tube 1–1.3 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm wide, gradually widening at top, bearded at throat; lobes incurved or erect, ovate, 1.3–2 mm long, puberulous externally, hairy internally at base, separating only slightly at anthesis. Anther cone c. 2 mm long, not exserted; filaments short, straight, pubescent; anther tails diverging. Nectary scales free, narrow, c. 0.6 mm long, obtuse. Capsules very narrowly cylindrical to very narrowly ovoid, 7.5–11 cm long, 5–9 mm diam., glabrous.

Environment

Grows in stunted tropical rainforests in gallery communities on river terraces or on hill slopes, sometimes in drier tropical rainforests with Araucaria, occasionally in transitional zone to open forest with Eucalyptus tereticornis and Melaleuca quinquenervia; rare.
