Characteristics

Climber with thin, glabrous, twining stems, with many prominent, hard lenticels on older stems; latex clear. Juvenile leaves linear. Adult leaves glabrous, usually thick, tough; petiole 2–7 mm long; lamina linear to lanceolate, rarely broadly lanceolate, 4–10 cm long, 0.2–1.5 (–2.5) cm wide, rounded or very slightly cordate at base, recurved on margin, long-tapered, apiculate, dark green above, paler or whitish below; secondary veins distinct below. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal, short, compact, several-flowered panicles; axes glabrous; pedicels 3–6 mm long. Calyx lobes recurved, 2 mm long. Corolla whitish, abruptly widened at apex of tube; tube 1.5–2 mm long, bearded internally; lobes erect or incurved, ovate, hood-shaped, 1.5–2 mm long, ± glabrous, contorted in bud. Corolline corona present, of 5 minute fleshy lobes at sinuses of corolla lobes. Anther cone 2 mm long, not exserted; filaments short, straight; anther tails divergent. Nectary scales free, fleshy, c. 0.8 mm long, obtuse. Capsules slender, narrowly ovoid, 6–8 cm long, 7–9 mm diam., glabrous.
