Characteristics

Climber to c. 15 m high with twining stems; new growth finely pubescent, with branchlets becoming glabrous; latex clear. Leaves glabrous; petiole 20–70 mm long; lamina ovate or broadly ovate-elliptic, 11–22 cm long, 3–11.5 cm wide, shortly attenuate, rounded or shallowly cordate at base, acute or mucronate at apex, apiculate; secondary veins raised below, with coarser net veins distinct. Inflorescence of axillary and terminal, open, many-flowered panicles; axes brown, shortly pubescent; pedicels 3–6 mm long. Calyx lobes spreading, ovate, 2.2–2.7 mm long, pubescent. Corolla pale yellow; tube c. 2 mm long, bearded at throat with glistening hairs; lobes revolute, linear, 5.5–7.5 mm long, 1.7–2.5 mm wide, finely pubescent outside, bearded inside in basal third, with a thick median strip. Anther cone 3.5–4 mm long, usually fully exserted; filaments straight; anther tails convergent. Nectary scales free, fleshy, shortly oblong, 1–1.3 mm long, obtuse. Capsules striate, ovoid or narrowly ovoid, 8–11 cm long, 1.6–3.5 cm diam., glabrous.
