Tufted perennial 300-450 mm high, base compact, glabrous; basal sheaths white, shiny, persistent; leaves basal; linear glands usually on pedicels. Leaf blade to 300 x 1-5 mm, expanded, glabrous or hairy; margins smooth; sheath mouth hairy. Inflorescence open, 60-140 x 50-120 mm, with ± 100-150 spikelets; pedicels and axils glabrous. Spikelet 3.5-5.0 mm long, awnless; glumes acute, yellow to green, scaberulous or hairy apically; lemma 3.0-3.5 mm long, glabrous to hairy all over; palea glabrous or villous; anthers 2-3 mm long.
