Tufted perennial 100-350 mm high; basal sheath white, shiny, persistent; leaves basal; sunken glands on leaf blades, sunken or stalked glands on pedicels and glumes. Leaf blade 80-300 x 1-3 mm, U-shaped, rigid; margins smooth; sheath mouth hairy. Inflorescence open, 40-100 x 30-100 mm; with ±200 spikelets; pedicels glabrous; axils hairy. Spikelet 4.0-5.5 mm long; glumes acute to acuminate, brownish, sparsely scaberulous along margins or keel; lemma 2-3 mm long, glabrous or hairy basally; lateral awn 2-3 mm long, extending up to and beyond glumes apices; central awn 5-10 mm long; palea glabrous; anthers 1.5-2.8 mm long.
Perennial to 35 cm. Leaves linear, grooved, with margins incurved, with scattered raised glands, often white-spotted. Spikelets 4.0-5.5 mm long, many in large open panicles.
