Tufted perennial 150-300 mm high; weakly geniculate; stolons present; basal sheaths white, shiny, persistent; leaves basal; glands absent. Leaf blade to 150 x to 0.5 mm, expanded or rolled, scaberulous; margins scabrid; sheath mouth glabrous. Inflorescence open to spike-like, 20-80 x 5-30 mm, with 5-50 spikelets; pedicels glabrous; axils sparsely hairy. Spikelet 3.5-4.5 mm long, awnless; glumes rounded, apices brown, shortly hairy; lemma 2.5-3.0 mm long, acute, hairy along nerves; palea hairy along keels; anthers 2.0-2.2 mm long.

Spikelets 3.4-4.5 mm long, yellow or green, apex brown, hairy, awnless, 2-flowered, both bisexual; glumes ± equal, as long as spikelet, 1-nerved; lemma hairy; anthers 2-2.2 mm long.
