Tufted or cushion-forming perennial 100-300 mm high; basal sheath white, shiny, persistent; leaves basal; stalked crateriform glands on leaf sheaths, pedicels and glumes. Leaf blade to 50 x to 3 mm, expanded; margins smooth; leaf sheaths with distinctive rows of stalked glands; sheath mouth hairy. Inflorescence contracted, dense, 30-50 x 30-40 mm, with ±100 spikelets; pedicels glabrous or scaberulous, shorter than spikelets; axils glabrous. Spikelet 4-5 mm long; glumes acute, straw-coloured, glabrous or scaberulous along keels; lemma 2.0-2.5 mm long, hairy; lateral awns 1.0-1.5 mm long, not reaching glume apices; central awn 3-5 mm long; palea glabrous; anthers 2 mm long.
Perennial, up to 300 mm tall, with glandular leaf sheaths, pedicels and glumes. Leaves linear, puberulous or villous; ligule a fringe of hairs. Inflorescence a contracted panicle, 30-50 mm long. Spikelets 4-5 mm long, straw-coloured, 2-flowered, both bisexual; glumes ± equal, as long as spikelet (excluding awns), 1-nerved; lemma hairy, lobe awns not exserted, central awn 3-5 mm long, basally twisted; anthers 2 mm long.
Perennial to 30 cm, with stalked glands on leaf sheaths, pedicels and glumes. Leaves linear, puberulous or villous. Spikelets 4-5 mm long, in a contracted panicle, lemmas awned.
