Characteristics

Plants densely caespitose, to c. 0.5 m tall, with inflorescences often barely exceeding leaves. Leaves: sheaths moderately to strongly ribbed, often with scattered retrorse hairs; ligule 1–2 mm long, obtuse; blade inrolled, 0.5–1 mm diam., glabrous to finely scabrous. Inflorescence to c. 8 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, contracted. Glumes subequal, ovate and abruptly shortly acuminate, with at least the lower glume inflated around lemma, 3–5-nerved; lower glume 3.5–4.5 mm long; upper glume 3–4 mm long. Callus c. 0.25 mm long, with sparse pale hairs c. 0.25 mm long. Lemma almost ovoid, asymmetric, c. 2 mm long, slightly laterally compressed, with several tuberculate longitudinal ridges; corona 0.4–0.5 mm long; awn eccentric, straight to slightly sinuate, to 10 mm long, readily deciduous.
