Culms 0.2–0.6 m high. Inflorescences 4–11 cm long. Spikelets 5.2–6.5 mm long, with 2–3 florets. Glumes slightly exceeding florets, acuminate; lower glume 5.2–6.5 mm long, 3-nerved, scaberulous along nerves. Lemma: body 2–2.8 mm long; lobes 1–1.3 mm long, shorter than body, entirely fused to themselves (body apparently entire or tridentate), without setae; awn absent or minute. Palea 2.6–3.6 mm long. Anthers 2.2 mm long, yellow or purple. Caryopsis 1.4–1.5 mm long.
Grows in grassy heathland, found usually within shrubs of Banksia or Leptospermum growing to a height of0.5–1 m, rarely in the open, also along accesstrack.
