Spikelets 4–6 mm long, 3–5-flowered, narrowly elliptic; rhachilla internodes thickened, shortly clavate (except the uppermost), stiffly pilose towards the apex, rarely glabrous; glumes ovate-lanceolate or triangular-lanceolate, the inferior 1.5–1.7 mm long, the superior 2.1–2.4 mm long; lemmas c. 2.8 mm long, ovate-lanceolate to ovate-triangular, acute.
