Inflorescence in dense bracteate heads, solitary or corymbosely arranged at the end of the stems and branches.
Ovary narrowly ellipsoid, unilocular; ovules numerous; style filiform; stigmas 2, linear-oblong.
Stems erect, unbranched or corymbosely branching at the apex.
Corolla tube cylindric, with 3 spreading lobes.
Calyx unequally tripartite; lobes carinate.
Capsule oblong-elliptic, bivalved.
Annual or perennial herbs.
Flowers trimerous.
