Characteristics

Annual or perennial robust herb. Stem erect, simple or branched at inflorescence, terete, 2-ridged. Leaves opposite, the basal ones wider than the cauline ones. Inflorescences terminal cymes. Flowers 3-merous. Calyx unequal, lobes keeled. Corolla tube cylindrical. Filaments filiform, inserted at the sinuses of the corolla lobes, dilated into a small hood at the base; anthers cylindrical to ovoid. Ovary unilocular; ovules numerous; style filiform; stigma bilobed. Capsule bivalved.
