Characteristics

Moderately robust bole-climber, occasionally scrambling over rocks, to c. 30 m tall, without free lateral shoots. Leaves: petiole generally somewhat shorter than blade, sheathing to geniculum; sheath degrading to papery fibres then falling away altogether; blade oblanceolate-elliptic, slightly falcate, to c. 40 cm long × c. 14 cm wide, glossy green above, dull below, somewhat coriaceous; primary venation not strongly differentiated from secondary. Inflorescences solitary or 2 together, smelling of decomposing plant matter; spathe c. (6–) 10–15 cm long, cream to greenish cream; spadix c. ½–¾ length of spathe, sessile to shortly stipitate. Ovary topped with conic style to c. 0.6 m long; stigma punctate to transversely shortly linear. Fruiting spadix to c. 11 cm long, orange after dehiscence.
