Cultivation

Origin: in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, by M.C. Smith. Introd. in 1922. Chance seedling; apparently a natural hybrid of European and American species. Tree: moderately vigorous; hardy; appears not to be as productive as Mable; propagated by layering. Clark and Clarke appear to be the same variety. Fruit: very large; skin thick, rather tough, greenish-yellow, turning red when mature; flesh quality fair to good; free of mildew; easy to pick; ripens in late midseason.
