Origin: in Geneva, N.Y., by Richard Wellington, New York State Agr. Expt. Sta. Introd. in 1927. Open-pollinated seedling of an unknown English-type gooseberry; originated in 1910. Tree: healthy; vigorous, upright-spreading; productive; apparently resistant to American powdery mildew. Fruit: very large; roundish oval; skin dark red of the English type, attractive, thick, tough; flesh tender, mild, juicy, subacid to sweet; quality very good; keeps and ships well; ripens late.
