Spikelets 6–12-flowered, laterally compressed, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets; glumes 1-nerved, membranous, lightly keeled, shortly awned at the apex, the inferior shorter than the spikelet, the superior as long as the spikelet; lemmas 1-nerved, membranous, dorsally rounded, ciliate on the margins, obtuse to obscurely emarginate at the apex, sometimes mucronate; palea keels pectinate-ciliate.
